Teachers' Hot Read
~ My absolute favorite strategy to get kids excited to read.
~ I will have a spot on my desk where I will display a book I enjoy that is my students' reading level. The students will see this book and my hopes are that they begin to ask about the book and if they can read it. If the students do ask about the book and do want to read it, I will allow them to. If the student can tell me something they liked about the book and give me a summary depending on the grade level, I will allow them to have lunch with me :) I will change the incentives throughout the year.
... A way that I can incorporate writing into this is having my students write about the book instead of just tell me. I will have a box in the room where they can put their paper. They are always more than welcome to come talk to me about what they read.
